ASPIS MODULAR

In the modern warfare scenarios, the protection and survivability of a sophisticated platform (Land, Air or Sea) together with the fire power and the mobility are key factors determining its combat effectiveness. However, due to the continuous evolution of threats and the transition of the modern battlefield to more asymmetrical and chaotic, the enhancing capabilities in the protection and survivability sector are constantly gaining ground over the rest.

It is well known that over the last few decades the improvement of protection was a concept interlinked with the increase of thickness of the armor and consequently the increase of the weight of the vehicle. This ability has reached its limits a long time ago and for this reason effort has been concentrated in recent years on the use of New Generation lightweight, high technology and high strength composite materials.



ASPIS MODULAR – THE HOLLISTIC APROACH OF PROTECTION

In the new generation of combat vehicles, the approach to protection and overall survivability should be "holistic" based on the above-mentioned stages of tackling a threat with multi-zone and successive stages of defense.

An integrated self-protection system includes masking and signature repression technologies across the range of enemy sensors (acoustic, optical, infrared, and electromagnetic). Also, a wide range of sensors for early detection, tracking, and acquisition of threat, an electronically-automated, with artificial intelligence assesses incoming information, combines them with those received from the C3I System and reacts instantaneously. In this way, act in principle on appropriate electro optic and pyrotechnic devices which either individually or in combination prevent sighting or guidance. In a more advanced form, the countermeasures are intended to make difficult (or even abort) the launch of a threat by direct intervention in the means of action or the enemy's weapon system operators.

At the last level, we have the destructive inhibition of the threat by "Hard Kill" system part of the active self-protection systems that intervene in the final phase of the missile's course toward the target and destroy it or cause damage that significantly reduces its effectiveness.

If defense zones fail, the incoming threat usually hit the target and the new generation multilayer protective shields are activated and the  structure of armor made from High strength, special alloys and composite materials incorporating nanotechnology structures are interacting by altering the penetration force and angle ultimately defeating the Threat.

EODH has been working for a long time in this direction with the aim of combining shields in their classical form with the "electronic shield" of the Advanced Shielding Platform Integrated System (ASPIS) that is designed to equip future combat vehicles as well as existing platforms that need upgrading. The ASPIS system is able to detect, classify and prioritize any incoming Threat, face it from the initial stage of the attack by measures and countermeasures. If the Threat proceeds then the first active defense zone, suppresses it with the Active Self-Protection System that is automatically  activated a few meters away from the vehicle.

Passive/Active/Reactive/Hybrid protection

EODH offers a complete range of protection capabilities for any vehicle and platform, including Our Advanced Passive and Active Protection Systems, Smart Materials, New Generation Transparent Armor and Nanotechnology based innovative composite armor.

For the upgrade of 2nd and 3rd generation Main Battle Tanks, EODH has developed a New Generation of Hybrid Protection Solution that is a Part  of the ASPIS, based on the past succesfull experience achieved with Novel, state of the Art Technologies, Materials  and Techniques for adapting critically  to the Chassis and the Turret. The New Generation  solution offers protection against long robe penetrators and hollow charge threats with a double warhead. The effectiveness of the package is increased dramatically with the use of advanced Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) which enables the best result to be achieved with less weight.


EODH also offers a solution for the New Generation of Light and Medium Combat Vehicles, based on ASPIS integrated Protection System with the use of a New Generation of Passive and Active Protecting Materials.


Also integrates the special Anti-mine Protection Design, combined with anti-shock Seats that are supported by innovative arms that absorb an amount of the explosion, protecting the transported personnel from neck and spinal injuries. In addition, the advanced roof shield is designed to provide protection against fragments from time-fuzed artillery munitions, shaped charge bomblets, and insults from light A/T launchers, fired from building terraces in urban warfare scenarios.

The outer layer of ASPIS Light  is complemented by specially designed signature reduction surfaces, that thanks to their geometry and special coatings, achieve the reduction of thermal (IR) and electromagnetic signature (RCS). Finally, there are anti-fragments new-generation and high-efficiency liners that, in the case of penetration of the shield, achieving a drastic reduction of the number and the degree of dispersion of the fragments.

In conclusion, EODH, in collaboration with established sensors' and electronics' Providers as well as Selected Research Centers, implements the effort to integrate the electronic shielding protection into conventional armor, aiming to provide to the designers of Future Combat Vehicles, integrated solutions that enhance overall fighting Capability and Survivability.
